Troop 595 is one of over 2,500 Units in the Sam Houston Area Council, also known as “SHAC”, which spans from Clear Lake on its southeastern border, east to Baytown, north to up near Huntsville and Madisonville, northwest to Caldwell, west to Columbus, and southwest past Bay City.
There are over 115,000 Scouts in the Sam Houston Area Council, the largest membership Council in the United States. Approximately 1,000 Scouts in the Council earn the rank of Eagle Scout each year.
Boy Scout Troop 595 was chartered in September, 1980 to St. Bernadette Catholic Church by its first Charter Organization Representative, Frank Unietis, and its first Scoutmaster, Al Beaupre. It began with 2 Assistant Scoutmasters and 8 boys initially. The Troop remained at approximately 25-30 boys for 15 years, and since 1996, has grown to the size it is today.
In its 30-year history, many young men have been a member of Troop 595, and of those, 82 have attained the rank of Eagle Scout.
